A few weeks ago we went to the DR for a wedding. Since it’s a 4 1/2 hour flight, we decided to extend the trip & make it a mini family vacation since we hadn’t been before. We ended up going for 5 days, 4 night & had so much fun! Before Ryan and I got together, I was not really a beach vacationer so even now when we do go on beach/island so I almost never know what to pack on these kinds of trips.
What I packed for a 5 day trip to the DR (beach wedding included!)
I normally buy a few new things for every one: bathing suits, cover ups, etc. but this time really took time to go through my closet & be very strategic in what I packed. I did end up getting some new things, but really planned every outfit so I didn’t overpack. Below is everything that I brought. This post contains affiliate links.
For the day
Day outfits were pretty simple: an Amazon set that I was so happy I found, a couple of dresses for breakfast/walking around the resort, and that was honestly about it. I wore a pair of black linen pants on the plane intentionally so I would have those to wear around too & ended up wearing those back home with the top of the amazon set that I got! My Amazon find was only $20 for a set that I will wear all summer I know. It’s a perfect beige color & will match anything as well as be very easy to dress up or down.
For the pool
New bathing suits were the one thing I was pretty committed to finding & buying for this trip. I ended up buying all new ones: mostly because I just finished 75 hard a few months ago and a lot of mine from last year were way too big since they were my (very) postpartum bathing suits. I wanted some new ones that felt more like my style and found some that I loved. A few were a splurge while others were from target, very different price points for both.
For night + the wedding
The two outfits I was most excited about wearing were two yellow dresses: one I got for the first there and the second was for wedding which was on the beach. I 100% did not mean to wear two yellow dresses back to back, but I loved them both soo much that I couldn’t decide and just said oh well and wore the same color back to back.
For night one, I found a yellow dress that I got sooo many compliments on that I can’t wait to wear it again! It was very flattering but I can say it was a little hot just due to the amount of fabric that it was.
Night two was the actual wedding, and I wore the other yellow dress that I brought and that one was a perfect wedding guest dress. It was very breathable & comfortable, but I did size down to an extra small, as it was very oversized. The other dresses I brought were mostly just comfortable and easy to wear with sandals or the other neutral shoes that I brought.
All in all, packing for the DR (especially if you don’t plan on leaving the resort) is very easy. Be sure to bring lots of easy outfits like dresses, rompers, etc. as the style there is very casual and relaxed, just as you would expect it to be!
