With the holidays quickly approaching, I wanted to get a head start on this years lists of toddler Christmas crafts! We love doing crafts around our house & I truly believe that making new memories with your toddler makes the season feel even more special. Nothing makes my little ones face happier than doing crafts or anything colorful, so I try to do at least one or two a week with her. I always like to do crafts around themes, so doing Christmas crafts during the holidays is an easy “theme” that I try to stick with all season long- plus they are some of the cutest ones that we end up doing all year long. The list of Christmas craft that can be done are endless: snowman, Christmas trees, and reindeer are all easy to make with a little imagination and some supplies. We keep our craft corner full of craft materials (construction paper, paint, pom poms, paper plates, markers, etc.) and below are some crafts that can be done with materials you most likely already have at home or can quickly order from Amazon!
Easy to do, the below crafts are a great afternoon activity or something fun to do one morning on the weekend when you don’t have anything else planned and are looking for something to do inside the house. What’s even better is that crafts keep little ones busy as you are preparing for the holiday season and make for (sometimes!) super cute decor to hang around the house or a kids craft room all season long. Family members and close friends will love receiving something whimsical and handmade and will feel special that they were thought of this holiday season. Some easy to do, some requiring a little prep work and some a little messy, sharing below a round-up of Christmas craft ideas that toddlers will love! This post contains affiliate links.
5 Toddler Christmas Crafts
“Mistletoes” Artwork
One of my favorite, this craft would make for a great Christmas ornament if your little one still has tiny feet (or hands)! Once done, frame this one and date it to always have it as a keepsake. My toddler loves painting with her hands, but gets pretty messy. Painting her feet is another way for her to experience “painting” but is a little less mess for me to pick up!
Materials needed: paint, construction paper & markers
Step 1: Paint your little ones feet green & have them walk on a piece of paper
Step 2: When paint drys, decorate the “mistletoe” with a bow, Christmas lights and anything else you want!
Another idea is to use a single painted foot and make a Christmas tree for a super easy Christmas tree craft.
Popsicle Stick Christmas Tree
This craft is very mess free and can end up being very whimsical and colorful too! With minimal prep work, popsicle stick Christmas trees are a great craft for someone who isn’t very crafty or an easy activity to do that requires minimum prep work. What’s even better is that since this craft is so small, it can be used for many things: Christmas tree ornaments, gifts for friends and family or even placed in special family members Christmas cards for an extra holiday cheer!
Materials: popsicle sticks, pom poms, glue
Step 1: Glue popsicle sticks in the shape of a triangle
Step 2: Let your little one decorate the tree with pom poms
Paper towel Christmas tree Artwork
Easy to do and also super cute, this one is a toddler Christmas craft that is perfect to hang in the house! It helps fine motor skills by giving little hands a focus on painting within the paper towels pieces & is very engaging. With a little “prep work” your little one can craft the morning away and decorate a Christmas tree!
Materials needed: paper towel rolls, popsicle sticks (optional) , construction paper & paint
Step 1: Cut small pieces of the paper towel roll and glue them onto a piece of construction paper in the shape of a Christmas tree
Step 2: Let your little one paint and “decorate” the tree!
Another idea is to use tissue paper to make the Christmas ornaments!
Paper Plate Christmas Tree Craft
Pom poms are a mess free, colorful way to do many crafts, such as decorate a paper plate Christmas tree! This craft is semi-independent, just make sure that the pom poms are a safe size and not too small. We like to use jumbo pom poms for crafts which can be found on my Amazon storefront!
Materials needed: white paper plates, paint, construction paper, paint
Step 1: Paint paper plate green. Once dry, cute paper plate and glue onto a piece of construction paper in the form of a tree. Be sure to also create a “trunk” using brown construction paper
Step 2: Let your little one “decorate” the tree by gluing pom poms of their choice!
Tissue Paper Roll Snowman Artwork
This craft is so cute because it makes a great piece of art that can be framed, just like some of the crafts above. I love framing crafts and putting the date on the back so we have them for years to come. These are also a great craft that can be turned in handmade Christmas cards! If you are not looking to get super messy but still want to paint, this craft is (sort of) minimal mess but still engaging and can create an enchanting Christmas memory
Materials needed: toilet paper rolls, paint & construction paper
Step 1: Using any color paint, have your little one “paint” with a toilet paper roll, creating little “snowmen”
Step 2: Once dry, decorate them with markers- be sure to add arms, a little nose and even a hat!
Another idea to make snowmen is to use cotton balls or pom poms, placing them on construction paper and using markers or pipe cleaners to make arms, feet and even little eyes!
Why are arts & crafts important
Not only are easy Christmas crafts for toddlers and preschoolers fun for your little one to do, they also can help boost kids’ imagination, enhance their creativity and can create fun activities for the entire family to enjoy! Doing crafts not only creates memories, but also nurtures little ones fine motor skills by letting them create freely all while making something they can visually see come to life.
Holiday crafts are also great to “gift” to family members during the holiday season, or even use them to make handmade Christmas cards. Not a craft mom- that’s okay! I love doing crafts so much I even started an Etsy shop earlier this year where I share some toddler printables that I design! The activities on my shop are already made for you, easy to do and are engaging activities to do.
Whether you are looking for something to do during a crafty morning, or a super simple screen free activity, crafts are always a good idea. You don’t have to be “super artsy” to have fun doing crafts with your toddler or preschooler, just be willing to get a little messy sometimes!
