Ryans custom tux was so much fun to do, almost as fun as my dress! I did not see the finished product until wedding day but i DID help him design it. I’m really glad we got to do it together because we added some really special details that we both loved. Going the custom route for us was a no brainer considering how picky we both are, ha! The idea in our heads couldn’t be found anywhere so we decided it was best to design a tux that had all the thing that we wanted. I wanted to share my 3 top tips for designing a custom tux, especially since it is a little overwhelming with all the options!
Choose the right color..and material
Just like any fabric choice, choosing a tux color is NO different. There are so many different material & options combos that its honestly too much for most men to handle on their own, LOL. My first tip is to make sure that you choose a color that looks good on the groom, not just a “nice color” that you like. Also take into consideration the season that the wedding is in and make sure that the fabric selected is neither too thin or too thick dependent on that.
We choose a muted green color, which is not what we originally wanted. At first, we wanted a emerald green that was a little bolder but once we saw the fabric in the sunlight, the muted green matched our colors more and looked better on.
Add special details
My favorite thing about Ryans tux was all the special details that we did! Not only did we have our wedding date embroidered on the inside of the suit, but he also choose a fun interior lining that had nothing to do with our wedding at all and all about Ryans heritage!
Being from Louisiana, Ryan wanted to be able to incorporate that into his tux and his lining was the best way to do so. He chose bright colors and musicians as the print, inspirited by Jazz & Southern living! He for sure received a lot of compliments about it and it was such a fun pop of color. He also did some other things like made lis lapel bigger, added black buttons and added a satin tuxedo stripe down his pants instead of a plain on to elevate his tux even more.
Do a final fitting
Even though he really didn’t need one, a final fitting was a must..with shoes! Almost every bride has one more fitting close to the wedding with everything on to make sure it all looks as imagined and I think every groom should too. Trying on a tux with shoes, handkerchief, etc. really gives the groom the exact image of what they will look like before the wedding, just in case they want to change anything last minute.
The biggest thing Ryan was happy he did was have this last fitting to make sure his new shoes matched/ were the right look he was going for. At the end of the day..I can honestly say his tux turned out perfect!
