So, I will be the first to say that not much helped me during my pregnancy. My first trimester I was sick almost daily with nothing helping but sleep. My second trimester I was fine and did a lot of travel and nesting early since I had a feeling I was going to be tired my third trimester and I was right! On my third trimester I’ve been so exhausted, even walking up and down the stairs (we have three flights in our house!), like I normally do every day has been tiring. Nonetheless, I did have a few go-to’s that I’ve been using these last 9 months and would recommend to anyone else trying to find some peace and comfort during their pregnancy journey.
Pregnancy Must Haves
Clean Beauty Products
Being pregnant, I was very conscious about the products that I was using on my body, especially makeup and facial products. I have used beauty counter for years but was really happy that I was able to keep using it throughout my pregnancy since it is all pregnancy safe, free of hazardous chemicals and toxins. Some other essentials that I used included Bio-Oil skincare oil, Palmers Cocoa Butter Oil and Nivea chapstick! I used these things things daily (sometimes twice!), when getting out of the shower and I think they truly did help minimize the amount of stretch marks that I gained throughout my second and third trimester when my belly was growing fast!
Health first!
I will be the first to admit that I do not drink enough water typically. Being pregnant, all I wanted was water all the time! I kept a huge jug near me at all times and did nothing special to it- just lots of ice and water. This not only kept me super hydrated during the day but also woke baby up sometimes so I was feeling her pretty consistently which was comforting. I did try a pregnancy pillow for a few weeks but it honestly didnt work for me. I eventually ended up just using normal pillows stacked up to support my belly and back the last few months when I got bigger.
Also, I did use prenatals throughout my entire pregnancy, but took a little while figuring out which ones worked for me. I tried ritual, smarty pants & ended up using a combination of those and iron pills (my iron has been low my entire life) to make sure that my body was getting a nutrients that it needed.
Rest!
Free of charge- resting and doing anything and everything I could to stay stress free helped me the most during my journey. I committed to not taking on too many projects around the house (except nursery things), tried to keep my daily activities lightweight and made sure to keep my environment stress free however possible. Being someone with high anxiety in stressful situations, I knew this would be very important for me. I did things that kept me calm- whether it was watching my shows in my book corner with tea in hand or listening to podcasts. I did also LOVE the what to expect app that gave me daily pregnancy tips and weekly videos that showed me fun things like the size of baby and what parts of their body was developing!
These few things helped me tremendously (especially my last few months) throughout my pregnancy journey & I hope they are able to help you too!
