Londyn loves sensory bins & I have been having so much fun making them recently. With so many holidays, themes and subjects, coming up with different themed bins has been very fun for me and I wanted to share them. When I started doing sensory bins, I really stuck to simple ideas like rice, empty cups, and mini bowIs as my sensory bin essential items. I have since them expanded my weekly sensory bins to be themed, each either focusing on a holiday (valentines day, easter), subject (colors, numbers) or other random things that I come up with. Sensory play ideas, must have sensory materials and spring sensory activities are easy to look up in Pinterest, but if you are just getting started on making sensory bins I have shared previously my essential sensory bin items here!
Benefits of sensory bins
I love sensory bins for so many reason! For one, they are great at keeping your little ones busy and making any learning experience fun, whether you need a break or are looking for an afternoon or early morning easy activity. Secondly, they are great for little hands in terms of strengthening fine motor skills. Not to mention that there are so many different trends and “themes” that you can do. I started making sensory bins last year and since then have had so much fun coming up with weekly themes and switching out sensory bins out.
Spring Sensory Bin Ideas
Sharing below some spring sensory bins for kids that are easy to recreate! Below are some of my favorite ones that I have created that are easy to duplicate sensory bins for spring. They all include activities for little hands to work on fine motor skills and of course, are fun. Most of the below I used simple things I already had around the house or got some simple items from the dollar store. Others, I created printables and other toddler sensory activities that I now sell on my Etsy shop, Shop Wanderbloom.
Butterfly Counting
This sensory bin is one of my favorites & I loved making it so much that I added the entire sensory activity to be available for sale on my Etsy shop, Shop Wanderbloom! With bright colors and numbers flash cards, this sensory activity is great for practicing numbers and counting.

Lemonade stand
A cute sensory table to “welcome spring” this is is very easy to make with all things yellow. Yellow lemons, yellow rice and some plastic cups are all you need to make a simple version of this sensory bin.

Spring is here
For this sensory bin, I used some spring themed books and an alphabet puzzle. For the sensory activity, I stuck all of the letters from the puzzle in the rice and got a mini shovel to “dig” them out with to do the puzzle. Using alphabet letters and some mini spring decor, this bin is really easy to make. All of the flowers & felt items are from this cute little Etsy shop that I love buying from!

Ice Cream shop
Ice cream anyone? I used some ice cream toys that we had around the house to create this ice cream sensory bin and it was successful! Making sensory bins doesn’t always have to mean coming up with something new and creative. Sometimes using one toy as a focus is a great way to create a spring sensory activity.

Flower shop
I love a good sensory bin insert- they make creating sensory bins so easy! You can DIY this insert, or buy one off of Etsy (I did the latter) and use any fake flowers to make all kinds of bouquets. This kind of sensory play idea is a great activity to practice colors and counting.

ABC’s
Can you tell we are learning the alphabet over at my house? ha! One easy way to make an abc sensory bin is to Y make a “letter” inspired bin & do things that all start with the same letter (A= apples, etc.) or use an abc puzzle to practice all letters together.

St. Patricks Day
Some of my favorite spring sensory bins for kids are the ones that are themed around a holiday! An easy way to make a sensory bin, pick any upcoming holiday and add things to the bin centered around that. For this one, St. Patricks day was coming up so I grabbed some of our St. Patrick books and used an alphabet matching printable to make this a sensory activity combined with some learning. Use shamrocks & rainbows to make a happy-go-lucky bin and recreate something like the below.

Easter
Another holiday inspired sensory bin! I created this Easter sensory bin using easter eggs & alphabet letters.

Color matching
Another easy spring sensory activity for kids, matching colors is a great sensory bin that focus’ on an early development skill! Using anything in different colors, create this sensory bin and do it with your little one, practicing colors as you play.

Hoping these spring sensory bin ideas for kids inspire you to create some sensory bins this season! Whether you are a sensory bin expert and make them often for your little one or are just getting started, these sensory bins are sure to create playful moments this spring. If you are just getting started, here are some sensory bin essentials to start with.
