Now that the new year has come & gone, I’m really excited to share the rest of our wedding photos! Our wedding was SUCH a dream and I still feel so blessed that we were able to have our dream wedding (…& honeymoon) in the middle of a pandemic. I will be sure to share all of the details eventually but wanted to start with my favorite thing..My Wedding Dress!
Being as picky that I am..I was surprised at how fast I was able to know exactly what I wanted to wear on my special day. I only had one rule- no lace! I grew up hating lace. I don’t even know why really but I think it comes down to the fact that I don’t consider myself really “girly” at all, more modern & chic, and lace to me is the epitome of “girly”. I hate it, on everything lol. BUT my mom loves lace, so I did try on a few lace dresses for her. I hated them obviously, lol, but she loved them so seeing her face when I had them on was worth the few minutes of feeling like a full on dolly, haha. In the end, I didn’t find a dress that I 100% liked, so we ended up designing on! I knew my dress had to be three things:
- Form Fitting
- Modern
- Unexpected
When I finally had my dress on..I knew it was the one. BUT, I actually tried the original one on in red, so I had no idea what it was going to look like in the white color until about a month before the wedding. Talk about stressful, LOL. I decided that having a huge, oversized bow was the best way to show my personality in a classy way. The bow to me was modern, but still feminine & chic! Even though I loved my dress as is, I still needed a “wow” factor so decided to add a black bow to change into during the reception ( I also had a party dress & I changed shoes too!). I wish I had more photos with the black bow..but let me just say it was soo unexpected & people loved it!
Besides the bow on the back, I wanted no other details on the dress. I love the simplicity of a clean dress with no additional layers, etc. & decided to go with that. I had tried on much more elaborate dresses before, and none of them felt like “me”, although they were all very beautiful. I actually thought my dress was too plain all the way up until my wedding day, but I liked it so much that I didn’t mind much. The other details I went with were also simple, diamond earrings & Badgley Mischka shoes & that was it. I was actually supposed to get Jimmy Choos, but the ones I was going to wear had been sold out for 4 months, so that was a lost cause. I cried about it at first, but then realized that , A, no one was going to even see my shoes and ,B, I was changing shoes anyways after the wedding ceremony.
Fabric wise- I went with silk mikado which is a more heavier fabric, but also very good quality which I liked since my dress was so form fitting. I wanted something with a lot of structure, so even though I got married in September in Texas, it was a perfect choice! Plus- my wedding was inside, so the weight of the fabric wasn’t that bad. It was though, pretty heavy during our first dance and there is actually a photo of Ryan kicking the bow on the back as our dance is ending, ha!
I also knew I wanted to wear my hair up for the wedding since I wore it down for my bridals. I wanted a completely different for my wedding day, but also Ryan has requested that my hair be up for our wedding. Which I thought was SO sweet considering that he had made this request months before.
I loved my dress so much! If you are Wedding Dress shopping my top three tips are below:
- Stick to what YOU love & feel comfortable in. No one knows you better then yourself, so be sure to pick out a dress that not only you love but you also feel comfortable in, regardless of what anyone else says
- But Do try things that you typically wouldn’t. I tried on over the top dresses just to make sure that I didn’t want one. I know lots of people who tried on dresses that they originally didn’t think they would like, but ended up loving them.
- Make sure your dress matches your theme. Okay-this is strictly a personal opinion, but let me explain. Most weddings have a theme (boho, modern, country, etc.). I think wedding dresses do too! For example- lots of glitter is a clearly a more feminine, chic type of wedding whereas lace and tulle would be boho/country. Making sure that your dresses matches the theme and look you are going for for your wedding helps everything to look consistent.
Choosing my dress & getting ready for my wedding were two of my favorite memories during the wedding process. I know a lot of women think wedding dress shopping is stressful, but it doesn’t have to be!
