I love matching with my little, as I know a lot of mamas do! What better time to do so than the holiday season?! The holiday season is filled with creating core magical memories and wearing matching outfits can make the Christmas season more fun and exciting! During our first Christmas, I got Londyn and I matching Christmas outfits and it is truly one of my most favorite memories from her first Christmas. We had so much fun taking pictures in our matching outfits and I put them her little dress in her newborn box- it makes for such a great keepsake.
How to match outfits for Christmas
Whether you choose to match for your Christmas card, or just because, finding matching outfits during the holiday season can be hard sometimes but doesn’t always have to be. While some might choose to match their little in a formal way for Christmas cards or a holiday event, you can also match or coordinate outfit in a more casual way too. The best thing about matching outfits is that you have plenty of ways to do so, for any occasion. Below are two ways to match your little this season, outfit inpso and a list of stores to look for matching options.
Buy something perfectly matching and completely new
Many stores sell matching Christmas outfits during this time of the year. From Christmas pajamas to dresses, there are many festive matching options. An easy way to match your little daughter, or son, this season is to go out and buy something new! There are many stores that sell matching options (I listed some at the bottom of this post).
Grab some pieces that you might already have in your closet
It is very easy to coordinate a holiday outfit that you didn’t even know you had by using things that you might already have in your closet. A easy way to do this is to start with grabbing items in the same color, such as a red sweater and some black pants or jeans and building outfits from there that compliment each other. Although these outfits might not matching 100%, they will be coordinated, festive and jolly!
10 Matching Mother & Daughter Christmas Outfits
Matching Christmas dresses
The easiest way I have found to match during the holiday season is to get matching dresses, especially red plaid printed ones! Mommy and me Christmas dresses are a perfect way to create a core memory during the holiday season, plus they can be dressed up or down for many occasions. There are quite a few stores that sell dresses in the same prints with many sizes to choose from & some stores even have mens items that are matching too. Most Christmas dresses that I found are also long sleeve, which is great for this time of year also. You can wear Christmas dresses with boots or heels for a fancy dinner or Christmas card picture, or pair then with low boots and even sneakers to make the outfit more casual. Don’t forget your red and green accessories for your little!
Complimenting holidays dresses
If you don’t want to match 100% getting complimentary dresses is the next best option! Find dresses that are matching tones (think gold, or the same shades of colors) are a perfect way to create a core memory during the holiday season. This is my favorite way to match during the holidays since you don’t have to wear a “holiday” print but can wear something that can be worn regularly allowing to get more use out of the items. For this, my favorite colors to compliment each other with are neutrals (browns, golds, blacks), combined with minimal pops of color, such as red. Outfits like this are also great to wear for new years or holiday parties too.
A matching sweater & jeans
A really quick and easy way to match your little is to get a matching top (like a sweater or blouse with a matching jacket) and pair it with some bottoms you already have! This matching outfit is perfect to wear on a casual day, like Christmas shopping or even around the house. For the bottoms, you can both wear a simple pair of jeans with matching colored shoes. Or even leather pants to make the outfit a little more elevated! For some even more “festivity” add some more red accessories for your little, such as a headband.
Coordinating, but not matching 100% outfits
To match your little, you can also use only one matching elemen. Such as a matching sweater and wear complimenting pieces to complete the look but don’t match everything. One way to do this is is to have a matching top. But then wear similar bottoms that are the same color for example. A great way to do this is to again wear things you might already have in your closet. Such as some staple denim for you and a little skirt for your little! This is a great matching option for Christmas if you are looking to wear something functional but still cute enough to take pictures in.
Coordinating colors, not outfits
If you don’t want to matching your little completely, but still want to compliment each other you can also just wear outfits that are the same color! The outfits can be completely different from each other. But can still complement by being the same color family and style. This is a great way to match if you don’t want to buy anything specifically for a holiday matching moment. Grabbing a dress from your closet is a great way to start building your outfit! For example, an easy holiday outfit is a shirtdress with some boots!
Where to buy matching mom and daughter outfits for Christmas
There are so many places to buy mom and daughter matching Christmas outfits these days! I have listed below some stores that I have shopped at for matching outfits that I would recommend.
Ivy City Co.
Ivy City co. is my absolute favorite place to get matching Christmas dresses by far! They typically sell out pretty fast, due to them being so cute. I have purchased matching items from them before, both for my first mommy & me matching Christmas moment I had myself with Londyn and for Easter dresses one year too. They always have a lot of options to choose from, as well as styles. Another thing I love about Ivy City co. is their quality. It is truly unmatched – the materials used to make the dresses is so thick, and they are very well done and would make great heirloom items to pass down for generations to come.
Rylee & Cru
I love Rylee & Cru matching outfits, their tops and sweaters are always so versatile. They also have great dresses that are neutral so you can wear them again throughout the year. Most of the prints are muted too, adding the the versatility of the items. In addition to having matching sweaters and dresses, they also have matching jumpsuits, pajamas and sometimes even jackets. All of these are great items to have as a part of your closets to create mommy and me matching daughter moments throughout the year.
Gap & Old Navy
Gap is always a great place to buy coordinating outfits. I love their pieces and the quality of the children’s clothes is great. I have found that they last a lot longer than items that I buy from other places. One great thing about Gap is well is that if you shop online, they have a “matching family” section during the holidays that is compiled of coordinating outfits for the entire family.
Old Navy is known for their matching Christmas family pajamas with the prints getting better every year! Although I do not get a lot of clothes throughout the year from Old Navy, I do always check out the matching Christmas pajamas since they have such a wide selection that typically is on sale.
H&M
H&M is another place that I love buying matching Christmas outfits. Again they have great quarry and pieces that can be worn year round. They also have very fun and festive holiday collections featuring lots of sequins and metallic tones.
