Honeymoon in Santorini, Greece: What we did

Greece was for sure not short of entertainment! Ry & I both knew we wanted to relax during our honeymoon, but we did want to do some planned things too. We decided on only a few and then took the other days to relax by the pool. If you are going to Santorini (or planning a trip in the future), I’ve listed a few things that I really enjoyed during our week there.

Wine Tour -A MUST!

One thing that we did that I really loved was a Santorini Wine Tour! You know I love me some wine (ha!), so when I saw that Santorini had some vineyards, it was a must do on my list. We had some amazing wines, but also learned a lot. Did you know that the wine in Santorini is not only native to the country, but also grows differently than wine in the US? I didn’t! The vines are trained at an early age to grow close to the ground in a circle. This is better for the climate that they are in and makes the white wines honestly some of the best I have ever had.

I think Ryan would agree…he only drinks red wine normally & even found some white wine that he liked too. We had so much fun on the tour- it was with about 4 other people so it was also good that it was a small group. Towards the end of the tour we found some wines that we loved and shipped a box of it back home! When it arrived, it was fun to reminiscence of our wine day in Santorini at home.

Shop- Buy a Memory

Since our hotel was so close to all of the little shops, we went “shopping”a few days. One of my favorite things to do when visiting any place new is to buy gifts for friends & family, but also buy myself a “memory”. I have been doing this for years & have so many random, fun things from all over the world. Coasters from Hong Kong, a scarf from Thailand to name a few.

From Greece, I knew I wanted a piece of jewelry. Something simple & from a local artisan to be exact. I spent a few days looking and knew I had found the perfect piece when I found the ring I got. I have always loved mixing metals & love vines & trees and was so excited when I found a piece that had both elements. I think Ryan liked my “memory” idea too, so we also got an Ornament for our Christas tree and he got a t shirt.

Walk the steps- the views are worth it!

“We took the steps!” Our first couple of days in Santorini when people kept saying this, I had NO idea what they were talking about! Little did I know that it would be one of my favorite memories from our trip. Taking the 300 steps down to Amoundi Bay was soo beautiful. Pro tip- do NOT drink champagne OR have a heavy breakfast before you go, haha!

We walked 300 steps down to the bay and had lunch. The views were simply amazing, but what was even more cool was all the locals walking around, and the little local restaurants. Funny story-Ryan had looked up a restaurant for us to go to before we went & we couldn’t find it no matter how hard we tried. We were sitting at the table about to order our lunch at Amoundi Bay when we realized we were at the restaurant we had been dying to go to, lol.

If you DO happen to drink a little too much wine at lunch while visiting, or just are too tired to walk back up, you can ride a donkey back up to the top. No matter how you get back up, just make sure you stop to take in some of the views on the way!

Boat Day- Sail the Aegean Sea

On the second to last day we rented a sailboat (caption & cook included) to sail the Aegean Sea. Honest moment- I had never been sailing before and had no idea what to expect. I was half scared, half excited. When we first got on the boat we met the caption and all of my worries went away.

We spent the day sailing, eating, drink some amazing white wine & enjoying the views. We stopped at the black sand beach, red sand beach and saw some other “touristy”placed too. Our chef on the boat also made us our favorite meal the entire trip! I don’t know if it was because the food was so great, the views being amazing or a combination of the two but we had probably our most memorable lunch.

Until Next Time!

XOXO,

B
