With Black History Month quickly approaching, I wanted to share some easy crafts to do with your little one during the month of February! We loved doing crafts around our house & create so many fun memories while doing then. I try to do at least one a week and try to do an “educational” one here or there where I combine learning about a holiday or soothing else! Since February is almost here, I figured it would be a great time to do some Black History Month crafts!
There are many ways to do Black History month crafts, with most being very simple! The materials I used below are simple too and probably things you already have (construction paper, paint, pom poms, paper plates, markers, etc.) or some you can quilt quickly order from Amazon!
3 Black History Month Crafts
The below crafts are a great afternoon activity or something fun to do one morning on the weekend when you don’t have anything else planned and are looking for something to do inside the house. These are both educational & fun, which is a win in so many ways! Not only will they keep your little one busy, but you can also share with them about being kind to others during this craft time.
The below two crafts are so easy to do! Both toddler printable can be found on my Etsy shop, shop Wanderbloom.
Tissue Paper Rainbow Craft
This craft is sooo adorable and very easy to do! You simply make a rainbow using neutral colored tissue paper. The tissue paper that I got can be found on my Amazon storefront and the Rainbow printable you can either make your own, or use mine that I made here!
Materials needed: paper, tissue paper, glue
Step 1: Start by creating a rainbow on a piece of paper! If you would not like to make your own, I have a rainbow printable available in my Etsy shop here: Shop Wanderbloom.
Step 2: Using neutral colored tissue paper, fill in the rainbow any way you would like!
Another idea is to fill in another shape, like a heart or peace sign, with the neutral colored tissue paper.
Heart & Hands craft
This craft is very simple and does not take much prep at all! All of the items needed are available using a printable on my Etsy shop!
Materials needed: hand cutouts, glue, construction paper
Step 1: Using the printable, cut out all of the hands in different skin tones
Step 2: Glue the hands on top of the heart, tracing the outline of the heart using all of the different skin tones.
Dot Marker/Sticker Activity
Mess & prep free, dot marker sheets are a great way to practice colors as well as hand eye coordination!
Materials: Dot Market sheets, dot stickers or dot markers
Step 1: Print out dot market sheets
Step 2: Using dot stickers or dot markers, fill in the dots
Why are arts & crafts important
Not only are easy crafts for toddlers and preschoolers fun for your little one to do, they also can help boost kids’ imagination, enhance their creativity and can create fun activities for the entire family to enjoy! Doing crafts not only creates memories, but also nurtures little ones fine motor skills by letting them create freely all while making something they can visually see come to life.
Whether you are looking for something to do during a crafty morning, or a super simple screen free activity, crafts are always a good idea. You don’t have to be “super artsy” to have fun doing crafts with your toddler or preschooler, just be willing to get a little messy sometimes!
