Happy New Year! I cannot believe it is already a new decade, it’s crazy how time flies! For this year, I have many things that I want to accomplish and things I want to get better at. In 2019, I made a vow to be more giving and volunteer more. Doing this last year made me feel more blessed than I ever have before & I’m happy to carry this trend into the new year! Although I have been compensated for this post, all opinions are my own. Frost Bank has helped me along my journey & made my initiative to give back very easy with their new campaign of “Frost It Forward Initiative”.
I started my journey to giving by focusing on things that were easy to do. Whether I “gave” my time a little more to a friend one week by giving her an extra phone call, or made a monetary donation, each time i “gave” something felt like a great reward. Frost Bank has helped me along my journey & made my initiative to give back very easy with their new campaign of “Frost It Forward Initiative”. Frost believes that random acts of kindness and generosity are catalysts for optimisms, creating better habits and I do too! I have listed below 3 ways to give back in an easy way to kick off your new year right! Although I have been compensated for this campaign, all thoughts are my own.
Give Back in Private- Pay it Forward
My most favorite way to give back is in private! I love to do this at the spur of the moment and without much thought at all. For example, it is so easy to spread kindness simply in a drive-through! If you are an avid morning pick-me-up kind of gal like I am, than you know how long the line can be at your favorite coffee shop. Make someones morning a little brighter by simply paying for the car behind you! Or even a couple of cars. This is a really fun way to not only start your day, but also put an unexpected smile on someone else’s day too!
Give to those in Need
This Christmas, some of my family “adopted” another family for Christmas. They did this by gathering the Christmas Wish List of the children and making all of their Christmas wishes come true! Adopting a family is something that is mostly done around the holidays, but can be done other times too! Reach out to your local shelter & see what their needs are. In Texas, for example- we have a very large homeless community and our shelters are always in need of socks and toiletries for their members. On a local target trip, I made sure to get some extra of these items and dropped them off. Just my small contribution made a difference.
Give the gift of conversation
I have always had a desire to speak to all types of people from different backgrounds. There is something about meeting someone who has completely different life experiences from you that is just so amazing! I have met many elderly women so full of wisdom that they could probably write a book, lol. I challenge you the next time you are in a public setting to meet someone elderly and ask their story. You will be amazed at what you could possibly learn! Better yet- if you do happen to have a random conversation with someone that you gained some knowledge from, offer to pay for their coffee or something! This small token of gratitude can truly make someone feel like their story matters.
Giving back has many rewarding benefits for self too! Not only are you helping someone in need, but things like lowered stress, happy feelings and improved overall health have also been proven! How will you give back this year? Will you be giving your time, or something else? Be sure to leave comments below, I would love to hear all of the creative things you guys come up with!
Until Next Time!,
