Since moving into our new house, I’ve been having so much fun decorating! One new found joy I have is creating tablescapes that are unique to “us”. I have always believed that traditional family sit down dinners was something I really wanted to constantly have, so have collected the perfect dishware throughout the year to do so. With Thanksgiving coming up, I thought it would be the perfect time to share what ours looks like!
One thing I am is NOT traditional and I think our current tablescape shows that, ha! I love mixing neutrals and chic patterns and our dining room table is no different. Sharing below my 4 tips on how you can make your tablescape unique too!
Add Patterns
Do you like plaid? What about animal prints? Contrary to what most believe, plates CAN be fun! A super easy way to make your tablescape stand out is by having patterned dishware. I found this leopard set years ago with my mom at Tuesday Morning & when she saw it she immediately went “OMG you HAVE to get it!”. I didn’t even have a house or a dining room table yet, but I bought the entire set for under $100 and I’m so glad I did. Using these on our table make it feel more chic to match my style, but I also add some neutral white & brown items to tone it down a little bit to match Ryans more traditional style.
Mix Metals
One of my favorite home decor rules is mixing metals. In my Living room, I always have a combination of metals. Whether its bronze and gold or silver and chrome, I always have more than one metallic. In our dining room, I mixed gold accents with bronze & brown to make the space feel a little more warm & welcoming.
Enhance with other items
Candleabras, cheese boards as centerpiece bases and even garland are all things that are great for elevating your dining room space! I have a cabinet with all of my “random” decor items and I always like to go through it to see what all I have that I can use to decorate our dining room area. Don’t limit yourself to how much you can decorate with things you might already have!
Simple is okay!
I think one of the biggest things I always see when people are trying to set their dining room tables is the feeling of having to fill every blank space on the table. I, contrary to most, actually like some blank space left and feel like it makes the space more functional and even a little more casual/easy. It’s almost how I view my living room too- I want the space to be beautiful, but not TOO beautiful that people feel like they can’t sit down, etc. Same with my dining room- I want people to feel comfortable to eat, make a mess & be happy.
Hope these tips help you decorate your table, whether you have your go to pieces OR like to mix it up a little bit!

B
